According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, the direct contribution of Travel & Tourism to Indonesia’s GDP was IDR226,411.0bn or USD17.0bn (1.8% of total) and the total contribution of Travel ; Tourism to the GDP was IDR770,310.0bn or USD57.9bn (6.2% of the GDP of Indonesia in 2016). This is forecast to rise by 4.3% in 2017, and to rise by 6.2% per year to IDR1,464,700.0bn or USD110.1bn (6.8% of GDP in 2027).
Furthermore, in 2016 Travel ; Tourism directly supported 1,944,000 jobs (1.6% of total employment). This is expected to rise by 1.7% in 2017 and rise by 2.4% per year to 2,517,000 jobs (1.7% of total employment) in 2027. In 2016, the total contribution of Travel ; Tourism to employment, including jobs indirectly supported by visitor exports, generated IDR173,433.0bn or USD13.0bn (7.6% of total exports in 2016).
