Chapter 1
Introduction to the area
With the ever-increasing popularity and accessibility of the Internet, it is only natural that the educational community should want to make use of this terrific resource. Use of the Internet and Web are leading to major changes in educational models. Effective exploitation of these changes requires adequate attention to understanding the technology, the educational processes and issues, student’s characteristics, etc
The term virtual means a simulation of the real thing, Virtual Classroom is a simulated classroom via Internet, which provides a convenient communication environment for distance learners just like traditional face-to-face classroom. A virtual classroom allows learners to attend a class from anywhere in the world and aims to provides a learning experience that is similar to a real classroom. When we go to college we have a schedule of lectures, which we must attend. Student must arrive on time, and when he enters the classroom, he finds a teacher, fellow learners, a blackboard or whiteboard, LCD projector, optionally a television screen with videos. Likewise, a Virtual Classroom is a scheduled, online, teacher-led training session where teachers and learners interact together using computers linked to a network such as the Internet.

The interaction between the professor and the student will happen via e-mail, discussion board, forums etc. Since the class doesn’t meet in a physical space at a scheduled time, the student will have to learn independently. He/She will be responsible for keeping up with the assigned reading and completing assignments according to the timeline on the syllabus. The growing popularity of E-Learning has introduced new terms to education, as Virtual Classroom, where student will be present with his professor and fellow learners in a classroom. They will not be present physically in the classroom but connected to the classroom via Internet.
A virtual classroom enables to bring learners from around the world together online in highly interactive virtual classes while greatly reducing the travel, time, and expense of on-site teaching/training programs. It can be used as a solution for live delivery and interaction that addresses the entire process of creating and managing our teaching-learning process. It facilitates instructor and student in teaching-learning events, such as a seminar, online discussion or a live training for employees in company. As in traditional classroom, there are professor and fellow learners present with the student; we have many participants present in virtual class room. They can talk with each other as in the traditional classroom via chat.

Literature survey
Following points describe the literature survey for the “Virtual ClassRoom”
2.1 Existing System
Education can be provided or gained by the traditional approach of visiting and education institute where students trained by trainers in a classroom. This is traditional approach of teaching but the problem is that for providing the teaching the organization needs to equip with the quality teacher in numbers, if it is not the case then students will suffer. Second is that we need to provide the infrastructure to the students.

2.2 Problems in existing system
i. Personal Contact.

ii. Have to record information manually.

iii. Geographical area is a constraint.

iv. Exam conducting and result announcement is a tedious process.

2.3 Available solutions and their features.

i. Virtual classroom system is simple as those faculties may simply post their material on Internet,
Students can read it online or can download it for further access.

ii. Geographical area is not a constraint.

iii. Instructor will provide students with a syllabus, course documents, and required readings.
2.4 Proposed solution.

Virtual Class Room System can be defined an approach to aid and enhance learning by means of personal computers, CD-ROMs, and the Internet. It may be as simple as that teacher may simply post their material on Internet; students can read it online or can download it for further access. Since student won’t be in a classroom with professor and classmates, he will need to be capable of independent learning. Instructor will provide him with a syllabus, course documents, and required readings.

2.5 Advantages of proposed solution.

The advantages of the proposed system are listed below.

i. Session can be recorded.

It would be great if you could study for an exam by going back in time to the original class. Now you can, as archives retain everything that happened from voice, to chat, to content during the live class, allowing all classes to be played back, verbatim
ii. Offers any time access.

Offer live classes, office hours, and group discussions at times that are convenient for instructors and students, not just when the physical facilities are available.

iii. Public ; private text chat
Some students are more comfortable writing than speaking, and our chat messaging allows the shy student to communicate textually so they can participate with their more talkative classmates.

3.1 Purpose and scope
Purpose :
As this use of the Internet is increasing, a traditional classroom has shifted to E-Learning. The purpose of this project is developing a Virtual Class Room environment for the benefits for the students. While advancements in communication tools were easily adapted to learning methods, it was the introduction of the personal computer and the development of the Internet that would create the most radical transformation in higher education. Learning by computer can be as easy as communicating with your professor and fellow classmates via email,
Scope:
It is to develop a Virtual classroom where the learning can be done online without the advantage of physical class rooms. Developing a Virtual classroom system to promote a greater count of students to splurge into the field of Education. It integrates the benefits of a physical classroom with the convenience of a ‘no-physical-bar’ virtual learning environment, minus the commuting hazards and expenses. It will usher in the immense flexibility and sophistication in the existing learning platform structures, with the perfect blend of synchronous and asynchronous interaction. It provides a means of collaborative learning for the students.

The Virtual Classroom System provides virtual classroom environment that does not require any room physically .The student has to attend the online sessions. He can attend them from any part of the world, he can even view the previous sessions of class for his convenience .All these sessions will be recorded and stored in the databases, and the students can make best use of these recorded sessions too. They also have a facility to store the notes given by the faculty.
