Fidel Castro was born August 13, 1926 in Eastern Cuba. The Son of wealthy, landowning Cubans, and well educated. He Graduated with a doctorate in law in 1950 from the University of Havana. Castro was a Cuban revolutionary and politician. People either despised him as a ruthless communist or idolized him as a champion of social justice. His friends believe he will be remembered in history for standing up to the United States and surviving. In 1953, a young Castro staged an attack against an army installation in Santiago de Cuba. After a brief imprisonment for the attack, Castro, his brother, and others were exiled from Cuba. Their crime was resisting the U.S-backed military dictatorship. Fidel Castro fled to Mexico where he organized a group of “freedom-fighters.”
In late 1956 Castro along with others had returned to Cuba taking up refuge in the Sierra Maestra Mountains. While there, he began to prepare for the guerilla campaign all while playing a deadly game of hide-and-seek. On the last day of 1958 Fidel Castro and the breaded guerillas received a huge welcome in Havana, Cuba after driving out the dictator Batista. Castro had seized power of Cuba. His Marxist inspiration had started to become evident. Fidel Castro had gone against the U.S. and in the second half of 1960, the United States had declared a ban on all trade with Cuba.
