Fire safety is a tool that enables people to recognize the risks and hazard to fire providing ways of timely combating fire and escape practices if the outbreak is uncontrollable (Murage, 2015). Fire safety empowers the victims of fire and provides opportunity to save their lives and property. According to Kobes et al., (2010), response to fire is determined by the human fire survival strategy.
Even though fire safety is considered a priority and statues include it, fire accidents are still a concern among the literate body of communities in schools. Questions of awareness are commonly raised on how to respond to emergency fires concerns before the damage and complications are incurred. These incidences are caused by lot of activities in the student houses coupled with a lot of people residing in the area and the type of the building itself. Due to a lot of activities going on in student residences implications shows that the safety of students is compromised, they are prone to be physically and mentally unfit. Therefore, measures should be taken to involve individuals in practical implementation of fire safety by empowering people with knowledge of responding to fire emergencies.
Emergency response to minor fires is important to eliminate the financial and timely costs associated with leaving the fire to proceed to cause more destruction. Mururi, (2014) supports this by explaining that fires in institutional settings injure a lot of people and damages property and are associated with a lot of costs. In a study by that was carried Eberlein, (2009) indicate the government losses a lot of money repairing the damages caused by fires.
