I have loved to read for as long as I can remember. One of my earliest memories is at the library with my mom and sister, handing books to my mom so that she could read to us. With reading comes writing, which is why writing is also very valuable to me. Even though writing has always been an activity that I enjoy, I know that I have a lot of space for improvement. I hope to become a stronger writer by learning how to write realistic dialogues and to feel more comfortable with my writing.
I most frequently write short stories compared to other genres such as poetry, which is why enhancing the dialogues that I write is necessary. I often feel like the conversations between the characters in my stories are plastic and unrealistic. I believe that learning the proper formatting for dialogues can be a step in the right direction to helping me write conversations of higher quality. Another strategy that may be helpful to me is paying close attention to the dialogue in movies. I think this can help me invision how someone were to speak in real life. I hope to improve the dialogues that I write while experimenting with new things.
In order to feel more comfortable with my writing I think that it is necessary for me to learn to share what I write. Oftentimes, I don’t feel confident with my writing which is why I am hesitant to let others read it. This can be problematic because talking with other authors can give me unique perspectives and inspiration. I am taking creative writing as an elective this year, where we are assigned writing groups. I think that this will be a great opportunity for me to get out of my comfort zone.
Besides working to become a more confident writer who writes strong dialogues, during this school year I hope to read as much as possible. Reading is something that I love to do and it can boost my vocabulary and grammar. I am excited to spend as much time writing and reading as I can and improve as I do so.
