Individuals with mental retardation still have rights like any other citizen of the United States, such as the right to marry or drive. It is by federal law that students that have this condition are analyzed normal classrooms, and that the teachers will plan out what is right for the student’s progression throughout the school year. Also, under the Americans with Disabilities Acts, along with other civil rights legislative actions, landlords and whole communities are unable to deny a person with mental retardation to live in that area unless there is valid evidence supporting the fact that they may not be able to live independently. In most states of the United States, marriage for mentally retarded individuals are either not allowed or under strict conditions, but is not really looked upon by the government, therefore it would mostly be legal, unless someone reports it. However, the people in the marriage are allowed to speak out if they believe it takes away their rights.
