It’s a well known fact just how dependent people have become on plastic. It is so embedded in our daily lives that we can’t even recognize it anymore until someone points it out.
You want proof?
Take out all the stuff in your house that’s made of plastic and probably your space will end up with virtually nothing. Almost everything we use is made up of it.
We can’t deny the factor of convenience and comfort it has added into our lives.
Replacing or avoiding plastic in every aspect of our lives is almost impossible and we are not asking you to do that.
The real problem we are emphasizing on is the single use plastic. Our fight is against “single use” plastic. Single use plastic are, like the name suggests, the plastic items that are designed to be used once and then thrown away.
The very idea of producing plastic items which we use for an average of 12 minutes but can persist in the environment for half a millennium. This is an incredibly reckless abuse of technology.
With such low statistic on recycling, the solution of the problem is not recycle. It’s refusing the use of these single use plastic items in the first place.
So what kind of plastic product falls under this category. You may be familiar with plastic bags, plastic cups, plates, cutlery, straws and the list keeps on going.
You encounter use of these plastic everyday.
At home, at shops, at restaurants…
These single use plastic items are the major contributors of environment degradation. They just don’t go away and break down.
If you can’t reuse it refuse it.
Just a few steps in avoiding these product can reduce the problem of plastic by around 60%.
Once we can start seeing the single-use plastics that are literally everywhere we’ll be able to start questioning the need for them. And if we can get even a few single use plastic items out of our life we’ll contribute in keeping our environment healthy.
