Summary of “The Challenge of Defining Culture”
The culture can be defined by four Components, these components may be arranged in several categories, such as cognitive processes, behavior, material creations, cultural processes. Cognitive Processes: are not themselves directly observable, but they provide the framework of people’s choices and perspective they can perceive ideas through symbols, standard values. Behaviors: in this component we act or conduct ourselves through of gestures, manners of eating, marriage ceremonies. Material Creation: is products of human cultural activities where they describe artifacts and features made by peoples of past cultures. Cultural Processes: is about of how culture is acquired, shared and transmitted to future generations, primarily by symbolic systems.
