” Why Chinese Mothers are Superior” Rhetorical Analysis
In the article “Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior”, the author, Amy Chua is a Chinese-American mother of two daughters and she explains that Chinese children are more successful than Western children. She also mentions in her article that Chinese mothers are superior because their children are raised differently. She claims that by breaking down a child and pushing them to their full potential the child will be confident and incredibly successful. Chua supports her claims and shows a different controversial way of parenting. In this article Chua used several rhetorical strategies to support her claim.
She starts off the article by saying, “A lot of people wonder how Chinese parents raise such sterotypicl successful kids. They wonder what these parents do to produce so many math whizzes and music prodigies, what it’s like inside the family, and whether they could do it too.” To support that she kept on going and used illustration by saying that her daughters were not allowed to do which is attend a sleepover, have a playdate, be in a school play, complain about not being in a school play, watch TV or play computer games, etc.
